このグループ展では、ニューヨークや東京を拠点とするバックグラウンドの異なる４人のアーティストの作品を取り上げ、今起こっている世界的なパンデミックの最中や、その直前に制作された作品を中心に展示します。
アーティスト達は、普段の何気ない生活の中で、人々が通常あまり注意を払わなかったり、気付かなかったりさえすることがある物や事象に注意を払い、時にはそこに美しさを、時には問題点を見い出して表現します。私がこの異なるバックグラウンドを持つ4人のアーティストを選んだのは、彼らは日常生活の中で自身や社会について探究し、問いかけ、それらを独自の視点でそれぞれの媒体で表現し、記録しているからです。
展示作品には、ファニー・アリエによる布のコラージュ、エミ・エレオノーラによる日々の写真とそれにまつわる詩、アーサー・ファンによるドローイングやコラージュ、彫刻、そして、小林園実によるアルコールインク画などがあります。また、会期中にエレオノーラによる詩の朗読と演奏も予定しております。
昨年このグループ展の企画を進めている時、「何気ない日常生活をアーティストはどう捉えるか」をテーマに、ニューヨークと東京のアーティスト達が表現した作品を展示することを考えていました。しかし、今年に入ってからの世界パンデミックの中、人々の生活は劇的に変化しました。そこで、ニューヨークや東京で暮らすアーティスト達が、刻々と変化する日常生活をどのように経験し、観察し、認識したのか。そして、そうした日常をどのように捉えて表現したのかに注目して、この時期やその直前の作品に焦点を当てました。
この展覧会を通じて、4人のアーティストの視点から見た世界を体験し、彼らの経験を感じ取ったり、自分の経験と比較したり、また、作品を通じて、アーティストも来場者も癒されたり、励まし合ったりする機会になれば幸いです。

This exhibition will feature artworks from four artists with different backgrounds based in New York and Tokyo, and will focus on artworks created around and during the global pandemic.
In everyday life, artists pay attention to things that people may not normally pay much attention to or even notice. Sometimes they express beauty in what they see and sometimes the problems in what they see. I chose these four artists because they are from different backgrounds and practice in different mediums to explore, question, record, express, and focus on our everyday lives in the contemporary world. Artworks will include fabric collages by Fanny Allié, daily photographs with short poems by Emi Eleonola, drawings, collages, and sculptures by Arthur Huang, and alcohol ink paintings by Sonomi Kobayashi. Emi Eleonola will also perform and read her poems during the exhibition with dates and times to be announced.
When I was planning this group exhibition last year, I was thinking about how artists in New York and Tokyo perceive everyday lives and express their views in their artworks. However, since the beginning of this year, people’s lives have changed drastically in the global pandemic. As a result, I have also shifted my focus to artworks created by these artists as they continue to experience and observe the global pandemic in each city, and in particular, how they express and perceive everyday life as a result of our changed world.
In organizing this exhibition, I want to give visitors the opportunity to experience the visions of the world from these four unique artists’ perspectives, and to give everyone a chance to think about and compare their experiences. I hope the artists and visitors alike find healing, encouragement, and understanding of our current situation through this exhibition.
